MOVEMBER 2009 SUMMARY

I would like to express my extreme gratitude to all our customers for their generosity and support during Movember 2009 in helping us to raise a total of
$3,291.70

During Movember (the month formerly known as November) Geeks on Wheels technicians put down their razor's for one month to help raise awareness and collect donations for men’s health – specifically for the Cancer Society and the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand.

If you asked me to put my finger on the single greatest achievement of Geeks on Wheels, I’d have no hesitation in responding by telling you that our team makes Geeks on Wheels very special, and the best place I’ve ever worked. I’m very proud of every one of our 18 strong technician team nationwide, and of course everyone I work with day-to-day at our HQ in Wellington.

In particular, I’ve been blown away by everyone’s energy & enthusiasm when I made the commitment to involve Geeks on Wheels in Movember this year. Having taken part in Movember once before back in 2007, I know that it takes real courage to endure the constant itchiness and resist the temptation to shave it off.
Then there are the strange looks you get from everyone, especially those that don’t know you, who are probably wondering if you normally sport a moustache, but are too afraid to ask in case of causing offense! Of course, it doesn’t always occur that you look peculiar until someone points it out!

Aside from Movember being a worthwhile charitable cause because it helps The Cancer Society, particularly for prostate cancer in men, the fact that almost every member of the team chose to take part, indicated to me yet again how wonderful our team is. This time, we collectively decided to embark on a steely determination to beat some big corporate New Zealand household names, ummm... such as Telecom NZ for example, not that we’d wish there to be any hint of sanctimony that a small little company like ours could beat an organisation employing thousands in a David & Goliath showdown.

Unfortunately we didn’t manage to beat Telecom NZ, however we are extremely proud of the fact that we finished #21st place in the nationwide leaderboard beating the likes of; Deloitte, Mars Confectionary, ANZ Bank, AON Insurance, TV3 Mediaworks, JB Hi-Fi, Reserve Bank of New Zealand, HSBC, Bunnings, but to name a few!

We have had a lot of fun taking part in Movember, and in particular, speaking on behalf of all our team, we feel a great sense of achievement that our small effort may hopefully make a little difference to the world!

Again, thanking you all for your kind support,

Matthew Carr-Gomm
